About the Event
Objective
ASTM International, in partnership with the ARM Institute, is seeking input from stakeholders in the manufacturing of hypersonic components and the terrestrial manufacturing of space components to develop market intelligence and a future road map for US robotics in this type of work. To gather this information, ASTM will be hosting an in-person workshop from October 4-5, 2023.
The workshop will include active discussions and structured brainstorming sessions focused on the desired future state for this type of manufacturing within the United States, the current challenges and barriers, the R&D needs to enable faster adoption of robotics in the manufacturing process, and the timelines and action items to address the challenges and realize the future vision that is possible.
Main topics of interest include:
- Current Processes: Identifying the most common manufacturing methods currently used in the construction of these types of parts. How are robots used and not used by the manufacturers.
- Current Technology Limitations: Identify why robotics are not or cannot be used in this type of manufacturing and if there are other types of technology that are not being used to their full potential.
- Identify Future Investments: Through a road mapping process, lay out where the US could make R&D and other types of investments to increase the use of robotics for this type of specialty manufacturing and therefore accelerate it further.
Background
To complement and aid the ARM Institute in its mission to advance both US Manufacturing and the use of robotics, ASTM has been tasked with gathering information into these very unique types of manufacturing. To ensure that ARM can make the best use of its time and funds, this workshop will help 1) ascertain the current state of the art and state of the industry and 2) help guide future technology road mapping session and investment strategies.
